Federation Guide

To start federating with other instances you need to:

• Follow people from remote instances
• Interact with people from remote instances
• Engage in conversations it might bring people to you and make them follow you
• Remote people need to follow you back to create an relationship

Federation takes time, for it to stabilize it can take around a week or two.

If you have data from previous instance you were on you can import your followings that will speed up the federation process.

Secure Mode

Secure mode basically enables “Show me your signature before i talk to you” this works great with other Pawkey or Misskey based instances but can break with Mastodon or Akkoma instances, this is why we keep it disabled by default.

Nothing stops you from enabling it back on but it can break federation with software which do not support proper key signing

Private Mode

This enables “Whitelist Federation”, what it does is Pawkey only accepts events from the instances you explicitly allow.

You can also completely disable federation by enabling this and keeping the list empty.
