We well more "i" created Pawkey because of the lack of features in current Fediverse software. Previously i used plain Sharkey on my instances it was lacking in customization and privacy features so i created a proxy specifically to use on my instance but that was hacky and users reported various issues.

Then i forked from Sharkey..

Then, i forked Sharkey and started building new features on top of it. But that quickly become annoying because modern Misskey backend [Sharkey is based on Misskey] is literally unmaintainable a ton of files to just add one thing to the backend, don't even get me started on the frontend.

Well okay i said "Fuck it", I will do it myself..

A few months later, Pawkey was born i forked from Iceshrimp for the backend base and completely dropped the frontend. I started adding features building a completely new built from scratch frontend on Svelte instead of Vue, I replaced all the old and unmaintained packages in the backend for their modern alternatives for example Koa Router was replaced with Fastify.

In the current state this isn't even Iceshrimp backend anymore its something own "Pawkey Backend" we fixed, patched, added features. This is basically what i always wanted from my software to be easily maintainable and extensible, this is why i choose Iceshrimp i still wanted to have a Misskey base but maintainable.

Everything is done the way we always wanted to.
Now Pawkey is in its Beta state it is fully useable its constantly maintained with new features, bug fixes etc.
